There may be many aspirants for that. The person who excels in the competition will get that attractive position.
Not only the Nepal Police, but also the Armed Police Force, the Nepal Army, and the National Investigation Department have similar aspirations and expectations. Many enter the same ‘batch’, but one of the best will be able to lead the organization. The aspirants work hard and compete till the last moment to get the post. In the strength of which the organization tends to be strong.
Dhiraj Pratap Singh and Uttam Subedi, who started their service in the Nepal Police on March 29, 2009, were seen as less than who. Not only that, both of them were discussed in the name of future IG. The two competed together in a series, from Inspector to Superintendent of Police (SP).
As the junior police officer leaps into the organization, his path to becoming an IG has been pushed. Even if the image of a capable police officer is created in the organization, it is clear that he can no longer become an IG.
With the current government deciding to promote Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Sahakul Thapa to Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG), both of them are now almost ‘ring out’ from the race for IG of Nepal Police. Before that, Subedi and Singh’s batch mate Bishwaraj Pokharel had become AIG.
In the police organization, he was known as a strong police officer in his batch. He was in the top three in the promotion record till promotion to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). When SP, Singh was at No. 1 and Subedi at No. 3.
He is a police officer who is involved in crime control and investigation and is not involved in any dispute from financial to financial. Having successfully investigated various criminal incidents in the society, both of them have been fulfilling their responsibilities without any dispute.
From the very beginning of their entry into the police service, Singh and Subedi were known as excellent police officers. He excelled in command, control and research and made his mark wherever he went.
Not only did he plan to reduce the size of the police leadership’s capacity for competent policing and safe society, but he also focused on increasing the surveillance of people constantly involved in crime, and was always on standby.
However, both of them were deprived of IGP resh.
He was behind in the promotion of SSP. Pokhrel, who is far behind in the SP, jumped to the rank of SSP. When he was promoted to SSP on 1 August 2074, Pokhrel was recommended to be promoted to number one from his batch.
Because his efficiency was said to be only average. But when he was promoted from SP to SSP, he unexpectedly fell from number 16 to number one. Even then, he was rumored to have the power of his relative, the then Deputy Prime Minister Ishwar Pokharel.
After that, Pokhrel never had to look back at the police organization. He made a leap forward – he was promoted to DIG from his batch on 19 April 2076. Similarly, on 15 December 2077, Pokharel was promoted to AIG by adding one more post.
Sahakul Thapa was released when Subedi and Singh were promoted to SSP. Thapa, who was promoted to SSP last time, came first in DIG promotion. Pokharel had already become DIG.
Similarly, Thapa was promoted to AIG seven months after Pokhrel was promoted. Thapa, who has been following Pokhrel, who is taking a leap forward, is seen hitting hard. After all, Thapa will now fight Pokhrel, who has made it like a single stake in IG.

While Pokhrel was promoted to DIG on 19 April 2076, Thapa was promoted to DIG only on 28 April 2076. However, Thapa was ahead of Pokhrel in terms of promotion. One of the two who entered the police service 10 months later than IG Chhetri will lead the police for 11 months.
Similarly, Divesh Lohani was competing with IG along with Subedi and Singh. Lohani was second in SP promotion. SSP Badhuwa was among the top four. Lohani’s career has taken a break since she became an SSP.
As SSP, when he was the head of the metropolitan crime branch, he was charged with ’33 kg of Sunkand and Sanam Shakya’ murder case. And until DIG Banda, he was 11 months behind the same batch.
Not only that, he had to endure hundreds of mental stress and social stigma from three and a half months in jail. He was promoted to DIG by the government on 13 December, but now his chances of going beyond that are very slim.
A team formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), Metropolitan Police Crime Branch, National Investigation Department and Police Headquarters was involved in the investigation into the gold case and Shakya murder case.
On 20 March 2074, a nine-member investigation committee was formed under the leadership of the then Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ishwari Raj Poudel. Poudel, who had no experience in research, was widely criticized at the time for being given the responsibility of coordinating by the then Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’.
The committee initially filed a case alleging that Lohani was involved in the incident. Based on that, the Morang District Court had remanded Lohani and some other police officers in custody for trial.
Lohani, who has the image of an honest, hardworking and honest officer, was involved in the gold scandal as per the instructions of the Police Headquarters. The then Division Chief SSP Lohani had sent a team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Prajit KC to Morang.
It was alleged that a team of the Crime Branch had gone to Morang to investigate Shakya’s murder, destroy evidence and help the main accused Chudamani Upreti ‘Gore’ to escape.
The team had reached Morang following the information of SAI Bal Krishna Sanjel. In the investigation, Sanjeel’s main accused Gore had a close relationship and the team of the Home Ministry was also involved in linking it as collusion.
Based on the report of the team formed under the coordination of Home Secretary Poudel, SSP Lohani was suspended with effect from 16 April 2075. And, the court even sent him to jail for trial.
Lohani was released on the order of the Biratnagar High Court on 29 September 2075. After his release, Lohani had applied to the police headquarters to lift the suspension. The suspension was lifted on 17 September 2076.
Many capable officers who have entered the post of police inspector along with Pokhrel and Thapa have been barred from competing. Singh, Subedi and Lohani, who joined the police service along with him, are considered capable officers. But they have been barred from competing for the IGP post. Its direct impact is understood by the experts in the organization.
